Keven is not only my best friend and husband of almost 7 years, but he is also the youth pastor at our Church. His post below is from his Revolution newsletter for December. Enjoy.
With the Christmas season now in full swing, I can’t help but get caught up in all of the hustle and bustle that comes with the season. From the decorations, to the music, to the school programs, it is difficult to stay focused on why we go through all of the chaos in the first place.
So why do we go through all that we do during the Christmas season? Are you putting lights on your house to shine the light of Jesus to your neighborhood or are you putting them up because that is what everyone else has done? When does giant inflatable Santa’s in your front yard become enough? It seems as though enough is never really enough.
We have been discussing what it really means to be a follower of Christ in our Youth Ministry and as I think about following Christ I have been challenged to look at this Christmas season a little differently. I am asking myself, as a follower of Christ, ‘what is Jesus asking of me as I reflect on His birth and the grace and mercy He has given me?’ That is a tough question to answer in the midst of all the hustle and bustle. So when I reflect on my family and all that we have been blessed with I have to wonder; when will enough be enough? John 14:6 says, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Enough is enough; it’s time that I follow Christ this Christmas. How about you?
